I know what you’re looking for…
My last post detailed some steps that I’m experimenting with to reduce the number of spam comments being handled by my blog. This morning I added an audit log to see what folks are actually doing (or trying to do) during that process. I included data about the post they were attempting to comment on. It turns out that there is a bit if irony here… the first posts that has attracted the most comments is the one where I talked about getting spammed.
And the other? It’s the one where I talk about the search terms used to find the Doctor site. If you read that post you’ll see what key words are probably attractive to the spammers. As an experiment I might remove that post for a while and see if the spam decreases.
But of course! It’s a Doctor Blog! You’re a DOCTOR!!!
Hence the drug spam you’re flooded with. I guess it’s a little late for a makeover…

Well, I am happy to report that some of the anti-spam measures are helping. I was getting approximately 1 spam comment per hour. After several days off (holiday for Thanksgiving vacation) I came back tonight to find three.
As in 3. Or, in binary, 0011 if you prefer.
There were also nearly 100 comments trashed by various measures I implemented last week, one of which I’ve written about (the confirm comment checkbox) and others that I have not.
I’m feeling a little better about things.
