Free what?

I don’t know why, but this morning (while waiting for a query to run at work) I decided to check the phpBBDoctor web site stats. One of the most useful reports from Urchin (a stand-alone reporting package that was later purchased by google) is the Search Terms report.

For the month of September, the #1 search term (phrase) that landed people here at my site was “free doctor search”.

So I’m sure that they picked up on the “doctor” theme of the site, along with the fact that I write and share various “free” MODs. Afterall the Free MODs Forum is one of the public ones, so everyone (web spiders included) can see it. Other terms were much more expected, and included things like:

  • phpbb dbal
  • phpbb table structure
  • phpbb structure

And more along those lines. And that was just for this month (so far).

I decided to see what the most popular search terms were for the entire year of 2006 (or at least so far) that landed people on my site. You would never guess what the number one search phrase was, so I will tell you.

“free porno”

Now to my knowledge, this site has never been nor will it ever become a “free porno” site. In fact, I’m not even sure where those words are even used on this site! Well, that is, until now. ;-)

  1. Now that was funny :D
I get several spam mails every day, telling me where to get “free” pills. Perhaps from my doctor?

Google doesn’t always find what it’s supposed to. I bet you’ve heard of the “google bombs”? It’s basicly tonns of webmasters linking to bush’s official biography with the text “Miserable failure”.

Search for “Miserable failure” in google, and see for yourself ;)

  2. I just like to imagine the reaction of someone searching for “free porno” and ending up at this site. I can just imagine the “WTF” comments, among others. ;-)
